Georgi Spasov – Managing Partner, Advocate, LL.Ì. (Sofia) LL.M. (London) has been a lawyer since 1988 and a Member of the Bar since 1993. For seven years he was a name partner with another Sofia law firm. For two years he was advisor to the Board of Management of TSBank Sofia and his areas of specialist knowledge acquired during his overseas research studies include: Banking and Finance Law (London), Securities Exchange and Regulation in Japan; European Banking Law in London and The Hague. Mr. Spasov is also a University lecturer in Law at the ‘St. Kliment Ohridski’ Sofia University. Mr. Spasov is mentioned in the 2003 Chambers Global Guide as one of the leading individuals in the Bulgarian legal profession.

Boyko Bratanov – Partner, Advocate, LL.M. (Sofia), has been a lawyer since 1995 and was admitted to the Bar in 1998. He specialises in tax law, customs’ law and company law, as well as privatisation, environmental law and regulatory issues. Mr. Bratanov is a Senior Research Fellow in tax law with the Institute of Legal Studies at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. In 2002 he spent three months in the Netherlands in order to brush up his knowledge of European Law and Tax Law.

Jana Djambazova – Partner, Advocate, LL.M. (Sofia), MA (Sofia, Psychology). Jana Djambazova started her career in 1991 and was admitted to the Sofia City Bar in 1995. Her field of specialisation includes corporate and commercial law, mergers and acquisitions and asset acquisition, as well as concessions, including prospecting and exploitation of natural resources. She joined SPASOV & BRATANOV as a partner on 1st October 2001, after being the Head of Legal Practice at KPMG (Bulgaria) for six years. Prior to that, she was senior attorney with Price Waterhouse (Bulgaria) for two years and for the preceding two years was a lawyer with the Sofia City Tax Office. As of 1996 she has been a Member of the International Bar Association, and has attended the biannual conventions in Vancouver and Amsterdam.

Vassil Hadjov – Partner, Advocate, also admitted in New York, LL.M. (NY); LL.M. (Sofia) started his career in 1993 as Research Fellow for the American Bar Association’s CEELI programme. While at Sofia University Law School he spent an year as a foreign exchange student at Soka University in Tokyo, Japan. After being a trainee and associate lawyer with a leading local law firm, Mr. Hadjov graduated from New York University School of Law, which he attended as a Fulbright Scholar. He then worked as an associate lawyer in the Banking Team and Corporate Recovery Team of the EBRD and the Global Project Finance Group of Freshfields Bruckhaus Derringer, both in London. Prior to joining Spasov & Bratanov as a partner in October 2003, he was Counsel in the legal department of the EBRD. Mr. Hadjov specialises in corporate and commercial law, M & A, corporate and project finance, concessions and natural resources.

Assen Dyulgerov – Of counsel, Advocate, LL.M. (Sofia). Mr. Dyulgerov was a research-fellow on Competition Policy and Consumer Protection for one year in Japan and took American Jurisprudence course in Budapest (joint initiative of Columbia University and DAC Foundation) as well as US Congress Course and EC Visitors Programme. He was an expert and then chief legal counsellor with the legislative department of the Bulgarian Parliament, and deputy-director of the Centre for Administration to the Council of Ministers, prior to becoming Secretary General of Sofia City Administration, where he served two mandates. In 1997 - 2000 he was the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Agency for Privatisation and since 1999 is a Member of the Supervisory Board, Sofia City Municipal Agency for Privatisation. Mr. Dyulgerov is a Member of the Management Board of the National Health Security Fund; President of the Agency for Sustainable Development and Euro-integration (NGO); President – National Association “Legal Initiative for Local Government” (NGO); Founder and member of Management Board – US-Bulgarian Foundation for Development of The Medicine and Biotechnology; Councillor with the Sofia City Municipal Council.

It is the Partnership’s policy to encourage trainee lawyers, who are usually undergraduates in Law. We generally employ 3 trainees. We have trained undergraduates from German and English law schools and in 2004 we will train a French national who graduated from the University of Burgundy in Dijon.
